Hibiki Harmony
Blended Butter
Suntory built Japan’s first malt whisky distillery in 1923, although the company had been in business (selling wine) since 1899. They have two malt whisky distilleries (Yamazaki and Hakushu) and a grain whisky distillery (Chita). To commemorate their 90th anniversary, they launched Hibiki (or harmony in Japanese) in 1989 by blending whiskies from all three distilleries. Their Chief Blender initially sampled and tasted aged malt whiskies from one million casks at Suntory, ultimately choosing thirty malt and mellow grain whiskies to create Hibiki. #dedication
Banana, green apple and melon on the nose. Butter, toffee, citrus and some bitterness on the palate. Not a lingering finish. Somewhat reminiscent of a Campbeltown Scotch. Overall a lovely, refined and balanced whisky that is widely available.
